What makes Lycos so special? Our people. Each month, we like to highlight our employees, giving you an inside look of the hardworking individuals who make us who we are. This month, we want you to meet Roxanne.

If you have ever been to our office, chances are: you've met Roxanne. Sitting at our front desk, she is the voice you hear when you call and the first person to greet you when you visit. Bowling, beer, pizza, and lots of fun!

That was the recipe for our 3rd annual employee appreciation party hosted at The Mark bowling alley in Elkhorn. If you know Lycos, you know we know how to have a good time. Whether it's a company get together inside the office or out, you can guarantee you'll leave with a full belly and a story to tell.

This year, we had the opportunity to combine forces with our two partner companies, Ruck Specialties and Ruck Cabinet Doors and throw a bowling extravaganza nobody will be able to forget.

From 12:00pm to 1:00pm, we all gathered in our reserved room to sit, relax, and eat delicious food. The menu? Only the essentials: wings, chips, dip, lettuce wraps (for our keto friends), and lots and lots of pizza!

After lunch, from 1:00-3:00pm, it was time to kick back, relax, and of course, bowl. With three companies and over 100 employees, we gave each person a random lane to bowl to help everyone get to know each other better. Laughs were had, and new friends were made! After everyone's games, it was time to determine the winners. After all, would it be a Lycos party if there was no competition? There were four prizes given to four teams: 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, and last place. On top of that, there were individual prizes for Most Strikes and Most Gutterballs.

All in all, Lycos's 3rd annual employee appreciation party was an ultimate success and fun was had by all. We are extremely grateful for our team and truly believe each and every one of them plays an important role in the company's success. So thank you to our employees for coming out and celebrating with us - we don't know where we'd be without you.

What makes Lycos so special? Our people. Each month, we like to highlight our employees, giving you an inside look of the hardworking individuals who make us who we are. This month, we want you to meet Matt.

We sat Matt down and asked him a few questions about the work he does, his life outside of Lycos, and his favorite thing about working in construction.

Q: What is your role at Lycos and what are some of your job responsibilities?

I'm a carpenter so I spend a lot of my time installing doors, cabinets, shower panels, bathroom accessories, wood paneling, basically all finish work on a job. I also lead the crew when our Foreman is not on the job.

Q: What do you think are the best skills you bring to your job?

I'm hard working, dedicated, and a great problem solver.

Plus, my knowledge and experience too.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Lycos?

It challenges me. We're never doing the same thing every week and it helps us expand our knowledge in different areas of construction. I also really enjoy the camaraderie between the crew.

Q: What has been your favorite job you worked on and why?

Meskwaki Casino, Raising Cane's, and all the school jobs. Honestly, I like every job we do because I genuinely enjoy the work that comes along with it.

Q: How long have you been in construction?

9 years. I spent 5 years working for myself doing residential work, but I've been with Lycos for the last year.

Q: What's your favorite thing about working in construction?

I always feel proud when I see the finished product. I don't think I'd want to work every day if I didn't get to see our finished work.

Q: If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

That's a hard one. I'd say, a monkey. Because they're very smart, they look like they have fun, they're loving, and they take care of their family. And... they're really cool!

Q:What do you like to do when you're not at work?

I'm almost always working. I work on the weekends remodeling and building homes for various people I know. But when I'm not doing that, I like to spend time with my wife and kids.

Q:What's one thing you couldn't live without?

Jesus Christ. And my family.

What makes Lycos so special? Our people. Each month, we like to highlight our employees, giving you an inside look of the hardworking individuals who make us who we are. This month, we want you to meet Patrick.

Patrick joined the Lycos team in July 2018 as an Apprentice / Laborer.

In his role, Patrick assists with carpentry installs including casework, doors, countertops, and accessories, cleaning up the job site at the end of the day, carrying supplies from the truck to the job site, and helping wherever else he can on the job.  With his upbeat attitude and passion for learning, Patrick has quickly grasped the construction world and has proven to be a valuable asset to our team.

We sat Patrick down, and asked him a few questions about working at Lycos, what he brings to the table, and what he likes to do outside of work.

Q: What do you think are the best skills you bring to your job?

My energy, willingness to learn, organization skills, and being able to get my work done in a timely manner.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Lycos?

Oh, there's a lot. The atmosphere, mostly. Every crew is like a family here and it makes work easier when everyone is so close. I also like how each day is different and we get the opportunity to travel to different job sites if we want to. And of course, working on a job from start to finish.

Q: What has been your favorite job you worked on and why?

As of right now, I don't have one. I've only been working at Lycos for about a year, so a lot of the guys point out jobs we've worked on in the past, and I think it's so cool just how many we've completed and been a part of.

Q: How long have you been in construction?

1 year. Lycos is my first time working in construction.

Q: What do you like about the construction industry?

The work utilizes my energy, I like working with my hands, and I think the work itself is very calming. Also, since I'm new to the industry, I'm having fun learning new things every day, like learning how to read blueprints and just learning from the Foreman and other crew members.

Q: Do you have a motto or a favorite quote you live by? If so, what is it?

"Live with peace"

Q:What do you like to do when you're not at work?

I like to play paintball, spend time with my wife and dog, and hang out with my friends.

Each month, we like to highlight our employees, giving you an inside look of the hardworking individuals who make us who we are. This month, we want you to meet Stephen.

As a Foreman, Stephen spends his days leading, supervising, and training our Carpenters and Laborers, collaborating with our project managers, and assisting with all finish carpentry on a job. His strong work ethic, exemplary leadership, and beautiful craftmanship makes him a valuable asset to the Lycos team.

Q: What do you think are the best skills you bring to your job?

Leadership, attention to detail, and quality carpentry.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Lycos?

The overall feel and environment of the company. You feel like more than just a number here. When I started at Lycos 5 years ago, there were only 6 employees. And even now, with how big we've gotten in the past few years, everyone's opinions are still valued and considered. I like that every day is different and I'm never stuck doing the same task day in and day out. I'm visiting different job sites, working with different people, and problem solving anywhere I can.

Q: What has been your favorite job you worked on and why?

I don't think I have a single favorite. I just like seeing all of our hard work finished. It's fun to visit these jobs after they're done and walk around, pointing out all the things that I had a part in.

Q: How long have you been in construction?

For about 10-15 years. I've been at Lycos for the last 5.

Q:What do you like to do when you're not at work?

I like to farm and spend time with my wife and 2 kids.

Introducing: The Faces of Lycos. Each month we will be highlighting our very own employees, giving you an inside look of the hardworking people who make up Lycos. This month, we want you to meet Josh, our Safety Director / Project Manager. Read about Josh's take on the construction industry, his role here at Lycos, and his hobbies below.

What is your position here at Lycos and what are your job responsibilities?

I'm a Project Manager and Safety Director for Lycos. As a PM, I work with clients to make sure schedule needs are being met, problem-solve with design issues, and control overall quality of our work. As Safety Director, I make sure all of our guys are up to date and comply with OSHA standards, brief employees on site-specific risks everyday, plan and implement safety procedures, and achieve overall company safety objectives.

What do you enjoy most about working at Lycos?

I love collaborating with everyone in the company. From the guys who have been in the industry for years, to our newest employees, I always learn something from everyone. Its rare your able to work with individuals that are so passionate about there job/trade, I feed off the energy from our Foremen and Field Employees.

What has been your favorite job you worked on and why?

Eppley Airfield. As a team we were able to collaborate and problem-solve to bring the project to completion and turn out beautiful craftsmanship. Plus, it's a high-profile job so thousands of people will walk by and see Lycos craftsmanship on display everyday.

How long have you been in construction?

Since 2011, so 8 years.

What do you think are the best skills you bring to your job?

Before joining the private sector I had the great privilege to be in the Army.  So many things we trained for in the military carry over in construction. We were taught the importance of scheduling, problem-solving, looking ahead for potential risks, and to always have a back-up plan.  Having these things instilled in me, not only made the transition easier, but has made me a better carpenter, super, estimator and project manager

Do you have a motto or favorite quote to help you get through your work day?

"Every job is a self-portrait of the person who does it. Autograph your work with excellence"

What do you like to do when you're not at work?

I like to hunt, fish, and spend time with my family.

The Lycos Team Does It Again

There's no arguing the holidays are the best time of year. Beautiful decorations, delicious food, ugly Christmas sweaters, and of course, holiday parties. Here at Lycos, we work hard day in and day out, but don't let that fool you. We still know how to have some fun. This year, our annual holiday party was held at the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Council Bluffs, IA and it was a night to remember. Full of good food and good drinks, our team celebrated the holiday season in the best way possible: all together.

The Details

Our reserved space was fully equipped with our own bar and buffet table filled with yummy appetizers, a prime rib dinner, delicious desserts, and of course, lots of alcohol.

After dinner, we all played a fun white elephant-esque gift exchange game. The gift we were exchanging? Casino chips of all different values ranging from $1 to $100. And then it was off to the races! AKA the casino. There was money gained, money lost, but most importantly, lots of fun.

Overall, it was a great night and a great way to spend time together to close out another awesome year.

Employee appreciation is defined as an unofficial holiday to recognize, praise, and thank employees for all of their hard work to the company.

Here at Lycos, we believe every employee on our team plays an important role in the company's success. Simply put: we wouldn't be where we are today without them. From the manufacturing team, to the finish installation crews, to our office staff, we appreciate every one's hard work and dedication.

This past June, to show our gratitude, we held our employee appreciation party at The Mark in Elkhorn, NE.

Is there anything better than spending a Friday afternoon eating good food, drinking beer, and bowling with your favorite co-workers?

Bowling Employee Appreciation

From 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, we all got to kick back, relax, and enjoy quality time together. Teams of 6 were randomly assigned across 10 lanes with each team playing 2 games. And of course, we had a competition. There were three prizes given to three teams: first place, second place, and last place. Whoever had the highest average score of all bowlers took the prize.

Levi Bowling Employee Appreciation

There were games lost, prizes won, employee gifts, and yes, even a group photo.

The Lycos Team - Employee Appreciation

Thank you to all of our wonderful employees who came out and celebrated with us.

I know we can't say it enough, but thank you for your valued support throughout the year. We appreciate you and all that you do.
